Is the lotus birth beneficial or just a trend?

The placenta is only useful for the baby to provide food, oxygen, and remove wastes while in the womb, it replaces the bodily functions of the other organs like lungs, digestive system, kidneys (although the baby does use their organs while in the womb, just not to the same extent)
The organ is meant to last for 40 weeks but after that it becomes insufficient. Once the baby exits the womb, they begin the transition to extrauterine life and are no longer in need of the placenta to perform functions that their body will do on its own. So, no, there are no benefits to keeping the baby attached to the placenta. Once the blood from the cord has emptied into the baby’s body, there is no reason to keep the placenta.

Honestly I have zero experience with this method & after researching it awhile ago I never could do it.

I will ask my doc to delay cord clamping for 2-3 minutes after birth when the time comes, but I will not keep the placenta attached to baby longer than that. There's no need for it.

It sounds dangerous. From what I’ve read, it’s more of a spiritual thing than for health reasons. But by leaving your baby attached to a dead and decaying organ, you’re risking infection

Are you 100% sure you know what the lotus birth is? I only ask because I've seen numerous times people use that term but are thinking of delayed cord clamping. If so, it's not super common because people don't want to walk around with their babies placenta for days after birth. I am going with delayed cord clamping though until it stops pulsing and I will not budge on that wish unless medically necessary
