Do they put the best sperm with the egg during IVF?

I’m very new to this so I’m just curious if they make sure the best of the best is being placed in the dish

The sperm is washed then placed in a dish. In some cases, it is assisted by injection.

My doctor explained that they wash it and then the sperm are separated by having them swim through some kind of substance - so the pick the ones who swim through first (in theory the healthier ones). Maybe they only do this before ICSI, I dunno. You should ask your doctor 😀

Yes they wash the sperm even without ICSI. I have never had ICSI done and almost all of my eggs have fertilized both times I've done IVF. I think if they have a concern about fertilization they will let you know.
