When are ultrasounds

Question

So I’m only 4 weeks along right now. I called and made an appointment for a confirmation blood test. They also made an appointment for my 8 week appointment and ultrasound and my 12 week appointment. But they said there wouldn’t be an ultrasound at 12 weeks. I feel like I would want one though because I want to announce that I’m expecting at 12 weeks but I want confirmation. Especially since I had a friend who found out st her 12 week ultrasound that the baby wasn’t growing as it should and she ended up miscarrying a couple weeks later. Maybe I’ll just bring this up at my first appojntmet? What do you gals think?

you could ask for a first trimester screening for down syndrome which involves ultrasound at 12 weeks

Sorry to say but you can’t request ultrasounds just because you want one. Typically they won’t do one until 20 weeks unless something is wrong. I had one at 10 weeks only because they couldn’t find the heartbeat with their Doppler . I also had one at 20 weeks to confirm gender and too make sure everything was as it should be and I don’t think I’ll be getting another.

I had an ultrasound today (7w3d) for dating because I didn't have a cycle between my miscarriage and this pregnancy. We should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat at our 11-week appointment, but I won't have another US until the 20-week for growth. It's not common to have an ultrasound at every appointment. You can ask for it, but it's not medically necessary unless you have medical complications or other factors. Relax into your pregnancy and understand that your body and the baby will do what they need to do :)

That is how my doctor is as well. I had my appointment at 8 weeks, ultrasound at 9w2d (earliest they could get me in), and 12 week appointment Monday. If you want another you can always look into a private scan place. My husband and I may do that so we can announce Christmas Day when we will be 13 weeks.

I had one at every apt from 8 weeks on. Depends on the dr though. My dr had a machine in most of the rooms so it was never an issue if scheduling like it had been at my previous dr.

with my first pregnancy they gave me an early ultrasound because i didnt remember when my last period was...so they called it a dating ultrasound.
