Question

how many days after ovulation should you take a pregnancy test ? my periods are very irregular so ovulation tests are the only way I know when I ovulate. also means waiting until a "missed period " to test isn't always a option . also started using preseed this cycle so if anyone has experience with that working please tell me your stories ?!

Regarding irregular cycles: 
there are two phases in a menstrual cycle, the follicular phase and the luteal phase. The follicular phase is the time before you ovulate where many follicles are growing eggs and one will eventually rupture out of an ovary and that time can very month to month. It is possible to have ovulation delayed or not ovulate during a cycle (not ovulating isn’t common and shouldn’t be regular).  This delay in ovulation could be due to stress or just your own body naturally fluctuating. After ovulation is the luteal phase which is constant for every woman-this lasts 14 days. So if you know what CD you ovulated simply start counting DPO and you can determine your expected period date. Pregnancy tests are most accurate 12dpo and later. For most accurate results try to wait to the due date of your period 14dpo. I just learned this from my OB, I too have irregular periods. Best of luck to you!!
