Swelling after birth

I just gave birth to my daughter 3 days ago. I noticed some swelling while in the hospital so brought it up and they said it was normal to still be a little swollen after birth. They said it would go down in a few days. Well today I noticed it has gotten worse. They were never this bad even when I was pregnant. Is it normal for it get worse before it gets better?
