I actually just asked the same thing and was told you do hold your urine for a few hours prior and test in the late morning and late evening to be safe. LH is primarily produced in the morning so the surge usually wouldn't make it to your urine until the afternoon

Nope! Don’t need to hold. When I’m having my surge it will show no matter what! I’ve peed, and then tested as soon as I needed to go again and it still showed just as strong as if I held it. They’re different than pregnancy tests.
