Good anxiety medicine?

Can anyone recommend a good anxiety medicine? I understand no one on here is a doctor but I was taking citalopram and gained 50 pounds on it within 6 months so it's got to go. My doctor agrees and wants to put me on Wellbutrin but isn't that mostly for people with depression? I get BAD anxiety attacks but I'm not really depressed....like I said, I know yall aren't doctors. I just wanna hear feedback on any anxiety meds that help you so I can run it by my doctor to see if it'll be a good fit

I'll reccomend that you see a doctor only. I really don't think advice on meds should be given here.

I take Wellbutrin for my anxiety/depression and haven't had an anxiety attack in over a month! It has worked great for me but it really depends on your body. Best of luck!

I take Buspar, only one I've found to work. Safe while pregnant too.

Xanax can be really Addictive, I was on it and got addicted. It really depends, it can be helpful.

Citalopram is also an antidepressant. I did not do well on Buspar. Have you tried Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, or Valium? They're all specifically to treat anxiety, I've taken all, but Valium. I'm taking Ativan right now for anxiety. Also ask your doctor about counseling, specifically cognitive behavior therapy. I also use an app called SAM to track my anxiety and it has suggestions of things to decrease your anxiety.

Buspar is very good; antidepressants aren't made to control anxiety symptoms, although they may improve your general mood. Xanax and Valium are better for acute anxiety attacks. The problem with these ones is that after you stop taking them you tend to feel worse than you did in the first place while your body returns to its normal levels. Buspar on the other hand, is very effective for long term use, however, it takes about 2 weeks to start working. I will say though, that anxiety problems are much better treated with therapy, rather than pharmacologically, if you have access to a therapist through your insurance, I would recommend trying to address the root of your anxiety and learn coping mechanisms that can help you in the future. Wellbutrin is suppose to be really good my dad takes it says it really helps and shouldn't make u gain
