What is a belly check?

First pregnancy here, so I am still learning the process. My next appointment will be a belly check. My doc explained it a bit to me, but I was wondering if someone could explain what goes on during those types of appointment.

Yeah it's nothing to worry about. They feel around to feel uterus size. They'll also measure your belly. For a regular person with a single pregnancy, she gains about a cm a week. Now I'm overweight so my doc doesn't use this tool, because my excess belly just might throw off measurements.

It sounds like she will just feel and measure to see how far you are, and also see how you're doing. My OB feels my stomach every appointment to see how far up my uterus is measuring, and also uses the fetal moniter to listen to the heart rate.
