I just got my mirena IUD 4 days ago and I am 17 years old and this is my first birth control ever. My doctor told me to take Ibuprofen 1 hr before my appointment and it really helped!!! I would recommend doing it even if your doctor didn’t tell you to. I went in and my doctor explained to me the side effects, and what the procedure was like. I laid down she put a heating pad on my lower stomach ( it really helped) she then told me step by step what was happening down there and even gave me stress balls to squeeze. There were 3 bad cramps but after that I was all done. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. My doctor was always very surprised I was not in so much pain and said I did better than a lot of women that were adults. Everything was normal after and I haven’t bleed at all. I only had one bad cramp that night but nothing else.

So my advice for you, take Ibuprofen 1 hr before and try to go when you’re on your period!
