Gentle parenting approach?

Anyone use this approach? Why or why not? Where did you learn about it? Has it changed you as a person at all?

I don't know if this is a specific lingo but I would consider my parenting approach gentle but firm. My son is 4 and is a really well behaved kid. On the off chance that I do raise my voice or even use a firmer voice he gets upset and listens immediately because it's such a shock to him for me to break out of gentle mode. 
I feel like if you're always yelling at kids and threatening punishments eventually it loses its power and you're just background noise. I only use my "serious mommy voice" for circumstances where he does something that could put him in danger.

For young children, definitely. When they’re older toddlers, I will step it up a bit.

I plan to!! I am loving the book 'Gentle Discipline' by Sarah Ockwell-Smith. 
Someone asked if 'gentle parenting' and 'attachment parenting' are specific terms-- yes. 
They are a style of parenting with specific methods. Time in, instead of time out. Not isolating children when they are upset but rather helping them to process their big emotions. Children don't need to learn to want to do well, they already want that. They just aren't developmentally capable of the same comprehension and behavior that adults are. So it's our job to adjust our expectations of them and realize they are Learning Everything and that's got to be really overwhelming.

I am a gentle parent. I don't even give time out BUT it's hard!! I really love it and will continue this through my children's lives. There are limits in my house, and rules but my children are people not objects and I choose to respect their thoughts and feelings. I teach them right from wrong and wanting to do the right thing instead of being afraid to do the wrong thing.

I am not sure what is considered gentle parenting but I don’t spank or do time outs but we still use consequences when he miss behaves. He’s a pretty good kid though so it’s not too often. If he throws a fit (he’s 4, he gets tired and grumpy like any other kid) then he gets sent to his room to calm down by yelling into his pillow or other healthy ways to let off steam. When he feels better we talk about what happened and remind him what is and isn’t ok to do when he’s angry. Another consequence would be like if he won’t pick up toys we’ll do it ourselves then take the toys away for a few days. We’ve only had to do this once and he was devastated so now we just give him the choice. You clean or I can and he knows what that means. We talk and discuss and do things together. He helps take care of his baby brother and sister. I am so proud of the little boy he’s turning into.
