Proud of my daughter

Doris

Two years ago I decided that I needed to get myself and children away from a situation. It was a tough decision and there were some losses but I have managed to make it so far.

My daughter decided to live with me. She had to make a hard decision. There is so much with this but it would be writing a book if i go into detail. Anyways, we moved from a small town to a bigger city. The schools are very different from what she was accustomed to. She decided on her own school she wanted to go to. New Orleans you are allowed to pick schools. So, she picked her school and started making friends pretty fast. Everything started going very well for her until one day she came home about a situation that happened. Not going into detail because I would just get upset about it. I went up to the school the next day to address it and got no where. I told my daughter that the schools are different here and she will just have to defend herself and stand her ground. After that situation, more seem to happen. And yet again, nothing was done. Then I get a call that I need to come to the school for a meeting. Fine, I go to the meeting waiting for everyone to just tell me she needs help in certain areas of her education and so on. That’s not what I got. What I got was a room full of teachers telling me that my daughter is the only student they have ever had in their classrooms that was interested in learning and wanting to help others. In fact, I was told that my daughter stood up to bullying to protect a TEACHER!! Yes that’s right. My daughter stood up to protect her teacher from being bullied by her classmates. Granted she got deductions for talking out of turn but she did it because she could see that not a single student was going to stop and she felt she had to do it. This was at the beginning of the week. Then I was told that very day she stood up and protected her best friend from bullying too!! She got a lot of threats for doing so but she told them she was not scared to bring it! Of course none of the threats were ever followed thru with and she was perfectly safe. (She took Tae Kwon Do so she can defend herself if needed.) But to sit in that conference room and not a single adult having a dry eye telling me that not a single student would ever put another person before them makes me feel so proud and on top of it to protect a teacher from being bullied was just mind blowing.

I know that I’m not perfect in any way at all but I’m thankful that I did raise my children to always do the right thing. Granted this happened last week but I just had to enjoy that time before sharing it with others.
