Do you think tampons can cause painful periods?

When I did some research on why painful periods are not normal I saw an article about tampons. I learned that they may be causing issues in women when used long-term.

Six months ago I stopped using tampons. I only wear pads and a diva cup when I swim. I have no idea if it really is the tampons affecting my cramps but I have almost none. This was the only thing I changed in my lifestyle.

My cramps were a 12 on a scale of 1-10, I'm usually bed ridden for 6 hours on the first day of my period. I couldn't work, walk, talk or sit I had to lay in a boiling hot bathtub till my skin was raw. The hot water was the only thing that would ease the pain of my back, legs and my abdomen area, heating pads weren't good enough. I hope this keeps up for the rest of my uterus' life!
