Birthing ball for pregnancy pain?

Question

I know a birthing ball is essentially just a exercise ball. I also know they’re used mainly for helping naturally inducing labor, but I was wondering if a birthing ball would help with pelvic / hip, back & sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy as well without causing premature labor? I’m only 33 weeks along & I’m having pains & I’ve done a little research & google says I could use it for pain, but it’s also used for inducing labor & I don’t wanna cause that. I just wanna help my pain. Is it possible to just use it for pain right now or should I just wait?

Hey ladies! Just wanted to come back & say I did get a exercise ball. I plan on searching some things up on YouTube tonight & giving it a go! I’ll update you ladies again to tell you if it’s helping me or not. I have high hopes!

I use an exercise ball I got at Walmart for 8 dollars. It won’t send you into labor, it can just help get your baby into position. It takes away all the pain I get in my pelvis and hips (36+6 today) and I love it.

It does help with pain. It will not induce labor. I’ve been to birth classes and during labor, it is recommended getting on the ball to help with hip and pelvic pain as well as just to change positions (to help progress labor). After labor, the ball would also be helpful for strengthening and other exercises. I’m a physical therapist and use the theraball all the time, even with my geriatric patients. 😊

I use mine when I am in pain.   It has never put me into labor.   Heck I spend more time on that silly thing than not and I am 12 days over due

I use my ball all the time. I have found it helps me with back pain and hip pain. You can sit on it and do clockwise and counter clockwise rotations. That really helps my hips. I also will kneel on the ground while using it to support my upper body. This helps me stretch out my back. I don't think you need to worry about it inducing labor unless you are constantly bouncing on it maybe?

Mine helped with my pain! I sat on it daily from second trimester on. I don't think you can induce labor with the ball.... it does open your pelvis and keep baby in a good position.
