4am wake up

my almost 4 month old wakes up at 4am wide awake and wont go back to sleep. we have tried just patting him giving him a pacifier no picking him up but doesnt work. i have picked him up and tried to rock him to sleep but he wont even lay down or sit down without screaming. he only stops screaming if i hold him in a standing position. we have a consistent bed time and routine with him, he sleeps in his own crib, we use white noise. he is ebf and wakes up every 2 or 3 hours to eat. I am not sure what i can do to stop this cycle
