Anecdotal stories vs evidence?

Alyssa

We see it all day every day- people will provide personal stories as a way to combat evidence. Examples: I smoked for 20 years and I’m healthy as a horse. I never wear my seatbelt and I’ve never been harmed in a car accident. The list goes on.

So here’s my question- do you believe that anecdotal stories replace evidence and research?

Bonus question- what’s the most off the wall “story” you have heard.
