Is there such a thing as “white” baby names vs “black baby names
So as I think throughout the day ever since I found out my little was is a girl I make list in my head and tell my partner the names and in return I always get a comment directed towards how names are everything for a child of color you can’t just name a mixed baby some old white name. I never knew names that were considered “black” or “white” I know people of colored that have names like Mary and Gwen and Kelly, and Jane, and Rebecca, and so on, I always know people of non color who’s names are The same as above or ebony or Aliyeah or some “bizarre” name.
I just don’t want a cookie cutter name for my daughter I want people to think wow that’s a really pretty name and you don’t hear it a lot. I always feel like the people with uncommon names are the ones you remember the most.
I’ve suggested names like Eloise, Ellie, Hadley, etc. I like olderish names, and I get told that those are white girl names.
I’m so done being told that I should remember my child will be as my partners mom said “half negro”.
I guess I just feel like a name shouldn’t be diversified by the color of her skin.
