Safe to hold baby without supporting head?

Question

Just curious how you know when it’s safe to hold a newborn without supporting their head? I have a 3 1/2 week-old so I’m not expecting it to be soon. I’ve found a lot of stuff on head control milestones but nothing that tells how you know when it’s safe to hold YOUR baby upright without supporting their head...

u can't find anything specific to YOUR baby, because your baby will do it when hrs ready. every baby is different.  our daughter was already holding hear head at 6 weeks old. by 4 months old she was crawling.  by 8 months old she was standing on her own.  she walked at 10.5 months old. she's met EVERY milestone early. drank out of sippies ONLY , by 9 months old. Ur baby will let u know.  a good way to find out, is by doing tummy time. tummie time should be started as soon as possible.  we started at 2 weeks old. in tummy time mode, eventually Ur baby will literally pick up and attempt to sustain head lifted.. it's a good sign that Ur baby will soon have good head control

All babies are different. My daughter had excellent head control from the start. We were holding her on our hip by 6-8 weeks old or so. Some babies take a few months.
