So confused🤨

I’m 40 weeks and 3 days. I’m supposed to get induced tomorrow, but my doctor told me that there’s a chance it doesn’t work and I’ll have to wait another week, which I don’t understand because I thought if you got induced that you were leaving with your baby?? Right now I’m 2 cm dilated, so I’m really hoping it works because I can’t go another week nor can I take the constant nagging from everyone to get this baby out. So if someone can explain this to me or if they’ve ever gotten induced more than once, let me know what happened
