Classes to take?

I’m a FTM and due April 21st. My husband and I are definitely planning to take a tour at the hospital. When do you suggest doing this?
Also, what classes should we be looking into? Are they absolutely necessary? If so, when should we start?

we are doing a labor and delivery class..that is 1 day for 8 hrs! We are also doing a 4hr taking care of newborn class. Doing them at 30-31 weeks :)  Definitely check with your hospital to see what they have to offer! Some classes may only be offered as series over the course of a month instead of single sessions..so you need to jump on it and register now!

Our insurance covers a lot of classes so we just signed up for a bunch in January and February. They fill up fast so we are doing them early (also due in April). We signed up for a childbirth prep class, hospital tour, infant cpr, breastfeeding class, newborn and pediatrics care, and medical and natural pain options for labor.

We did the lamaz half online and half in class so it was only 4 hours there last week.   I did it just in case I get put on bed rest.   We’re doing a baby essentials this weekend and my hubby is doing infant and child cpr next month (I’m certified from work).   I’ll schedule s hospital tour in February and so the breastfeeding one then.  I’d rather be ahead than behind on that and march might be a few baby showers.  I work every other weekend so it makes it tough to do them too

I think it depends on how comfortable you are with babies. I was the oldest of 10 and had no issues. The hospital(military then) all but required me to take a labor and delivery class and breastfeeding class. I didn't learn anything from the L&D; class and a few minor things in the breastfeeding class that were not beneficial to breastfeeding in general. For me, they weren't worth going to but for many first time moms, it's super helpful.

my OB said around 30 weeks. 
we are doing a 4-week class in march (which is later than id like) bc the classes at the hospital in february are on a bad day for our schedule. this class comes w a tour. i signed up for a different class about breastfeeding for february

My hospital recommends taking a tour by week 32. Ours is scheduled for week 30. Dunno about yours, but the tours at my hospital get booked up fast (they’re free but you need to schedule it). I’d say book now so you get the time slot you want.
This is our first child, so we’re taking, childbirth, breastfeeding, and baby care classes. All in February.
