Elopement - Sort of?

Has anyone else contemplated eloping and then at a later date had a more “normal” wedding situation? I’m not talking ten to twenty years, doing a vow renewal. My situation is more like - don’t have the money right now, plans are falling apart, but still want to be married. But if we decide to elope, I still want to have an actual wedding in the relatively near future - 2 or 3 years max, 6 months minimum. I’m just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what your solution was.
