What do I REALLY need

Question

Alright. I am looking threw "what you need" check lists and crying because my budget is tight. Surely to God this little baby doesn't need ALL of this stuff. What two things could you NOT get by with, and why? And what two things did you buy and NEVER use? What do I REALLY need? I'm not doing a nursery because I have a two bedroom house, the second bedroom belongs to my step son. The baby will be in my room. What do I really need??

There's nothing wrong with handed down items. Alot of my son's clothes all through his baby months up to now are a majority of clothes that people had given to us from their previous children. Also just letting friends and family know you are looking for certain items for cheap help incase they see something or know of something for give away. Second hand stores are also really good for the bigger items or garage sales !!

It can be overwhelming when you look at it all. Maybe try to break it down into segments and think about what you will need right away. I LOVED my mini-cosleeper for the baby to sleep in my room. It's bigger than a bassinet but smaller than a pack n play. A carrier is awesome to have as well. I never leave the house without one. A bouncy chair would be good to have to place baby down if you need your hands free, like showers. I bought a lot of my clothes through local online classifieds. You can find lots of clothes for cheap prices.

I loved the swing for my daughter, I bought one that allows the seat to detach and be used as a bouncer as well. (Fischer-price zen collection swing). Unless you travel a lot, a pack and play is not necessary. You could do a mini crib in your room, their are some that have a changing station attached. If space is an issue, I would suggest not doing a travel system, but picking your car seat and opting for a compact folding stroller that accommodates an infant car seat. You don't need a high chair until about six months and full size stand alone high chairs take up a lot of space. You might consider the compact folding kind that clamps onto the table( saves space and money). Hope this helps.

All you really need is a place for baby to sleep, clothes,  bottles (unless your breastfeeding), baby soap/shampoo/hygiene items,  a car seat, and diapers. Everything else is optional and a luxury! I couldn't have lived without my bouncer seat with my daughter though. She slept in her pack n play for quite a while. There are thrift stores,  craigslist, etc.  There is nothing wrong with second hand items if they're  still useable.

Pack n plays are really versatile, you can use those as a bassinet and take it with you anyplace you might need. I used my bouncer a lot while doing dishes folding laundry taking a bath it entertained baby is small cheap and easy to move from room to room. Also I recommend a bath sling rather than a baby bath tub they are cheaper and I used mine to death the baby tub I used maybe twice.

There is a blog called Scary Mommy that had a list of called "the only 12 items you really need" google it. I think it was basically a carseat, a few clothing items, somewhere to sleep (whether that be a crib or bassinet or in your bed or pack n play or swing ect) a way to feed them, and dipaers and wipes.

That being said depending on how tight your budgets is second hand stores, garage sale/yard sales, craigslist and ebay are all places you can find item cheaper. Also just ask around to people you know with kids if they have any baby items they are willing to let you borrow, give to you or sell to you. Also if someone is theowing you a shower that will help out of costs too (be sure to register for stuff you actually need. especially the stuff you don't really think about or will run out of quickly like diapers, wipes, formula, lotions, body washes ect.)
