Hopeful
My daughter was born with Erb’s Palsy. She had nerve damage on her right arm during birth. She wasn’t able to move her arm at all, but could barely move her fingers and always kept her hand turned to a far outward position. She has been going to therapy since she was three weeks old. Therapy has helped tremendously! She can now pick her arm up half way, bend her elbow, and hold her hand in a normal position most of the time (thanks to a brace she’s been wearing for a few weeks.) She really has greatly improved, and it’s getting harder to see anything wrong with her arm unless you know what to look for.
With all that being said, she still has a long way to go and some doctors think her arm will never be 100%. I’ve always wondered if she’d be able to crawl, play sports when she gets older, and just the impact this injury will have on her life. Well last night I became very HOPEFUL!! I helped her get in a crawling position and supported her belly and encouraged her to move forward/ slowly moved her forward myself. She didn’t leave her right arm behind!!!!!! She actually picked it up and moved it forward!!! I’m hopeful that she will be able to crawl. She might just have to crawl at a slower pace. I cried happy tears when I saw that.

This is how she always held her hand.

And this is her now at 5.5 month old.
