Car seat installation??

Question

My due date is 4-4-18. When is a good time to install the car seat? I definitely want it to be done before I go into labor. I wouldn’t want my husband to have to leave the hospital because we weren’t prepared. Please help!

I’m a certified car seat technician at a police department. We recommended that you have your seat installed and checked by a tech at least 2 weeks before you’re due. 2-4 weeks before the big day is when I see the most installs/seat checks. Good luck!

I definitely say wait until it’s time. They go in pretty quickly and easily so it shouldn’t take long to install. With my first i had been considering putting my car seat in at 36 weeks. Exactly one month away from my due date, my husband got into an accident on his way home from work when a teenager flew through a red light and smashed into him. The car was totaled. If I had installed it then like I’d wanted to it would have had to have been replaced. I always tell everyone to wait.

With my first we put the base in around 36 weeks.

I would wait till a few weeks before. He will probably go home for a shower at some point while you are still in the hospital, so don't worry about him having to leave for it. It may even be a good project to distract you in early labor!
