Spotting a day after period

So I had a normal period this month and then the day it ended it was just a little bit of brown discharge like normal but had some.horrible cramps that night. I woke up early this morning and had a generous amount of blood, enough to cover a tampon with "chunks". What is this, a continued period or something else? I did not have sex this month and I'm on birth control.
