Can we talk about the glamorization of mental illness?
I have noticed in our modern day the glamorization and glorification of mental illness and I find it rather disturbing. Mental illness is not beautiful, its not unique, it’s not poetic, it’s not romantic, it’s not cute, it’s not different , it’s not special. It’s fucking tragic. I’ve seen this on the rise for quite some time and just wanted to have discussion about it.
I feel like we went from completely not understanding mental illness and not taking it seriously to now everyone who feels sad over failing a math test to getting anxious about a first date to being happy about something in their life is now self diagnosed as some illness. Where is the balance? Can we discuss that yes mental illness is a serious thing and should be taken just as seriously as cancer, diabetes, etc. but just because it should be taken seriously that doesn’t mean EVERYONE has it or has to have it.
Mental illness has become a trend and it’s disgusting that something that is crippling and debilitating to some people lives is now in style.
So basically I just wanted to create this thread to discuss this issue I feel like we don’t discuss it enough on here and I feel like it’s important
