Twins?

Question

Hey guys, I just want to know my chances of twins if anyone knows? :)
My Nanna’s sisters are twins, my mum is a twin and I am also a twin (all females).. ( also FYI, my mum had 2 sets of twins)... do I have a higher chance? Would be a higher percentage? Just so I can prepare myself for the possibility 👯‍♀️🤭🤗

It depends entirely on what type of twins. There’s two types - identical and fraternal 
Identical - can happen to anyone and is a result of the egg splitting during cell division. There is no genetic component to identical twins and no increased likelihood if they’re in the family 
Fraternal - happens when the woman produces more than one egg (hyperovulation). This does have a genetic component but unlike the common theory it doesn’t skip a generation - but is only passed down by women. So for example my grandfather is a fraternal twin - he had two sons - and then I was born from his son. Though he’s a twin because he is male, he didn’t pass the gene to his sons and therefore not to me. I’m an identical twin but have no higher chance of twins. 
NOW - if the twins in your family are fraternal AND the gene is passed down by women then the chances are much higher. If the genetic line is broken by men then that gene cannot be passed on as men don’t ovulate. 
I did a LOT of research when I first got pregnant because of the twins in my family but sadly it looks like I’m not destined for twins! I also used to breed dogs and it’s the same inheritance. Bitches that were from a small litter go on to produce small litters and those from large litters also produce large litters (generally)
