Do cloth diapers really save a considerable amount of money?

I have done a lot of research on cloth diapers since we are planning on using them for our baby due in August. The conclusion that I've come to is that they can save a good amount of money if done the right way. They cost more upfront but down the road the cost is less. Where people lose money is building their stash. some people buy 30, 40 or 50 brand new cloth diapers and spend $500+ dollars just to START which is completely unnecessary.

Thanks to using cloth diapers part time, I realized today that one sixty pack of disposable diapers lasted us from mid October til now. For an out of pocket investment of 40 bucks, I would say that’s definitely saving money in the long run.

Oh and one other tip: Put them on your registry! With my daughter I got a ton of disposable diapers at her baby shower. I am putting cloth diapers on my registry this time around instead of disposables. People know diapers are like the most important thing for a baby so will usually get those. There are lots of ways to cut cost when building up a cloth diaper stash and the cost of laundry for them (depending on where you live) isn't that astronomical either. For us it's less than $4 a month in water and electricity (washing and then drying and even that $4 estimate is generous).

Where I live, I get a rebate for buying them. We just bought 8 but that’s enough to have dropped our disposable consumption significantly. There has been no change to our water or electric bill

Absolutely not. Clothing diapering is 100x more expensive than disposables EVER were. 
There’s the miserable way to cloth diaper with the cheapest methods and yet you still have to have the time, machines. And energy plus pay for the extra daily laundry load.
Or you can cloth diaper in a way that’s convenient and leak free which equals a LOT of money and one massive headache to wash and maintain. Your average decent quality diaper will start at $25each and climb from there. 
Do yourself a favor and dont. I’ve spent over $20k cloth diapering not including all of the extras you need plus cost of electricity, soaps and water
