Microwave myths?

So my mother told me not to stand by the microwave because it could be bad for the baby? Because of radiation or something? Is that true?

Old microwaves yes but I've been using a microwave for yours and I don't take to much of what a read seriously since now days everything is bad and will kill you in some way it's kinda got ridiculous

My microwave lives on the back porch until we find someone to adopt it lol. We tossed it because it kills anything good in your food so your basically eating empty calories when you eat food out of the microwave.

I read something on this. Older microwaves or microwaves that have doors that don't close properly do leak radiation. You can test your microwave by shutting a piece of paper in the door and pulling. If it comes out really easily then the deal isn't so flash.

The first time I was pregnant I was so filled with myths. Like putting your hands over your head can cause the cord to wrap around the baby's neck, lifting is no-no ( totally untrue and is only discouraged when you feel you've reached your normal limit), there were more but I can't remember them right now. Some were pretty ridiculous though

No, it's not. People who say this have a fundamental misunderstanding of what radiation actually is and the types of radiation. Your body gives off "radiation." :) I'm a physicist.
