How much should a nanny be paid?

Will be nannying out of my home. I feel like 10 an hour would be fair since that’s what I’ve paid my sitters. But why is it they keep wanting a daily rate of 35-50 I mean is it really worth an 8-4 Monday through Friday. I’m a stay at home mom so I am not desperate but I feel like 50 a day to tie me home for the week isn’t a whole lot

$10 an hour is a little much. If it was only a few hours that’s understandable but at 8hrs a day that’s $80 a day when at most daycares it’s $30-40 a day. That means if they made $18 an hour they would literally only have enough money to pay you at the end of the month with a couple hundred left over...

I’m a nanny and honestly $35-50/day is not worth it for one child. Daycares are different because they have several children that they are collecting this amount from. If people want a private nanny they should know they need to pay more. You can’t expect someone to survive off of $5/hr or less, you could work at McDonald’s for more. You are providing a service to keep their children safe and protected. And giving them one-on-one time with their child(ren), which helps them develop and learn faster. If they want to only pay that rate, they need to use a daycare. The only way that would work for you, is if you took on more children to watch, which would then cause more stress to you and less one-on-one time with each child. But if that is something you want to do, that is surely an option. However, if you are just going to nanny for one child, $10 is the minimum I would accept, even that is a little low.

I wish I made $10 an hour. I nanny 3 kids for 12 hours a day and I make $40 a day which averages $3.33 an hour

10 an hour is a LOT for a nanny. Babysitters get more because it’s generally a couple-time deal and less planned. But a nanny is there for a longer time, and that builds a connection with the kids, making it much easier. And, it’s scheduled. When I nannied, it was more like 7 an hour on average, but in a daily rate like yours.

depends on the living cost of where you are really, when I babysat in California a few years back I charged 10/hr for one kid +5 per additional kids
