Custody? Help!
Trying to make a long story short here.
My cousin, who is now two, has been abused (beat) by his mother, her boyfriend and his sister. This poor child has rarely known kindness or love, and both of his parents are meth users who are currently being stripped of their rights.
Now for the questions.
I’ve been involved with this boy since he was born. No one else in the family will even attempt to get custody (some of my family really isn’t nice), and he’s about to go in to the foster care system, which we all know how that can potentially end up!
How likely is it that my fiancé and I could obtain custody? I have a bank job, my fiancé has a state job and me make good money. We currently live in an apartment but are looking to buy a house when I graduate college in May. We also have a 1 year old son of our own.
Stable home, stable jobs, stable income, stable cars, available childcare.
I suppose my big question is because we’re young, only 21 each, would they even consider us for a second? We started life a bit young, but are on a great track with our lives. Does that make a difference? Will they consider us first before giving him away?
Where do I get started legality wise?
