Maternity visit bill?!

When I was pregnant with my first I never had to pay a cent for any of my maternity appointments. This time I received a bill for the 8 week appt at almost $400. Aren’t the maternity appointment supposed to be covered by insurance?!

Every insurance is different and it's constantly changing.

Call the insurance company and double check they submitted everything properly. Also make sure your doctor is covered by your plan.

I still have to pay up to my deductible and ultrasound and lab work aren’t included under the covered maternity care, so I pay coinsurance (20%) of those costs until I reach my out of pocket max. Insurance coverage is incredibly complicated. Checking with your insurance company is a good idea.

every insurance is different. I had to pay $400 total for my 1st child almost I years ago, but this one is completely covered now.

I did check on the insurance website and it states that prenatal care is covered and not subject to the deductible. My dr is also in network, so I am wondering if they are not billing correctly!

All my prenatal visits are covered, but at each month I have to pay around $275 at the appts to go towards the delivery. Then I will pay the hospital fees that aren’t covered after the delivery. 
At first I was confused about why I was having to pay anything now because my visits were covered but then I figured out it’s just payments towards the delivery fee for the doctors office.

My insurance doesn't cover any prenatal or maternity needs because I'm on my mom insurance, not my own.

Every insurance company is different, insurance plan is different, and unfortunately there are a lot of good and bad hidden features in all of them! You may want to talk to billing at your office or call your insurance company for more info!!
