Unicorn Birthday with some sadness
I had to share this story.
My birthday was on Thursday but on Tuesday, I learned my great aunt (like a grandma to me) had a fall and was in the hospital. I took Wednesday off (day before my bday) to visit. By that time, she was in a “meditative state”.
Thursday was my birthday and it was a snow day, so no work. But it didn’t feel special. I just felt horribly sad. That night we learned my great aunt had actually had a MASSIVE stroke, which had caused her fall. At that point, it was a waiting game. Waiting for her to pass, as the doctors said there was no coming back.
Saturday was my birthday party. I was surrounded by friends and some family. But right before everyone arrived, I had a meltdown that would’ve put a three year old to shame. I just couldn’t feel happy.
But then...my husband surprised me.

Oh. My. Word. It was a UNICORN!!!! And a delicious one at that!
And I made a wish. I wished that my aunt would wake up, crack a joke, throw her legs over the bed, and say she was ready to go home. Little did I know...I’d made said wish too late. She’d passed earlier that morning. I’m relieved she went so quickly, though. But I’m so sad because she was the last “elder” of my family.
But I am SO thankful that my husband is so supportive and I was surrounded by friends and in-laws that love me (my parents are on vacation).
To lighten the mood...here are a few more pics from the party.

No matter what, I’ll always remember my 30th birthday was so special. And so sad. But I’m so thankful I got to have the time with my aunt that I did.

Here’s the two of us at my surprise bridal shower in May.
