I have no idea what to think, say, or do.

My stepdaughter informed me that her mom told her if she messes up one more time, she’s kicking her out of her family bc she doesn’t want a problem child ruining her family. I said what?!? She said yeah, that’s what she told me. I said I’m assuming she was just upset about something. Then she said no, she also told me if I want out, I could leave. She told me that twice. So, again, I told her that her mom had to just be upset about something. Then she said, no, i don’t think she was. I guess all I have to do to is just mess up again and I can finally live here.

She doesn’t want us to say anything to her mom bc she doesn’t want to get yelled at again. However, this isn’t the first time she’s told us about her mom saying something like that and last time, it was true. Her mom ended up telling us about it. I think stepdaughter was 8 last time and she just turned 11.

I’d like to remain anonymous. In response to the comments, we have no proof of her saying anything this most recent time, other than stepdaughter telling us. Any times we had problems before with the way my stepdaughter is spoken to, her mom denies it and calls stepdaughter a liar.

She’s wanted to live with us for a long time. We hope she comes and lives with us but now she keeps saying she’s not sure what she wants to do. The last time we talked about stuff, she said she just doesn’t want to get in trouble or yelled at by her mom for wanting to live here when she’s at her moms.
