My birth story☺️☺️

Louise

For a first time single mum I was absolutely crapping myself for how my labour would turn out regarding how painful it would be after hearing the dreadful horror stories! It’s been 9 weeks since my little bundle of joy has been born and I would definitely be up for being in labour again! I went to my widwife appointment on the Saturday before not engaged and then two days later to another widwife appointment to be told I was engaged 4/5ths and that the widwife thought I’d have my baby boy by the following weekend because I was having the runs and eating less etc. (Little did I know she could feel my contractions starting but did not tell me so I would worry😂)

My contractions started on the 3rd November at 9.30pm coming every 10 minuets lasting 30 seconds out of no where... honestly you’ll know because it definitely is like period cramps and nothing like braxton hicks. So here I am at 9.30 thinking oh gosh I’m going to die and it’s going to drag because everybody tells you your first can go on for hours and days😫

I couldn’t sleep the whole night because I was uncomfortable and every time I went to fall asleep I’d get woken up by this uncomfortable cramp radiating from my lower pelvis all the way to my back. So it’s 4 in the morning and I’m bored.. I’ve had two baths by this time, walked god knows how many times in my garden, drank so much fluids and listened to nearly every song going on the internet 😂 so it gets to 6.30 and my parents are up to start their day and I’m still pacing about! So I ring labour and let them know at the hospital and take their advice! I walked to costa which is a 30 min walk there and back from my house and my contractions start going coming every 5 minuets lasting 1 minuet now... we get back at about 3pm and I’m planning to still make my trip to the fireworks that night! I leave my house with my two best friends and my parents were going too! We get the 6.34 train and this is when my contractions started coming every 3/4 minuets lasting 1 minuet still but getting very intense in my pelvis.. so I call labour and tell them and they worked through me with my contractions! I was advised to have another bath🙄 as labour could still take some time.. ! I watched those fireworks that started at 7.30... these went on for about 45 minuets and 5 minuets before they ended I was like no mum we need to go to hospital things are kicking off. So we go back home and grab the bags and head off to the hospital which is about 45 minuets away. So I get to the ward and this midwife says “ I’m going to check how far you are but I think you’ll be going back home”. Is she having a laugh I was thinking to myself🙄.. she actually thought I was only a cm or two because of how well I was with my contractions. Definitely proved that widwife wrong that night as I was 4 cm😂 so she says looks like you’re staying but labour could still be a long way a head.. so she puts me in this comfy posh chill room and I’m like still walking about and bending over, I got get changed and I have my last bowel movement. She’s starts going through some paperwork and it’s getting to the point where my mum is having to talk as I actually can’t because of how quick my contractions are. So she makes me walk round the other side of the ward to see how far I am now an hour later.. yes walk!!!! It took me 15 minuets to walk just round the corner 🤔 so I lay down and she checks. 8cm an hour later.. again I proved this women wrong☺️ so now I’m in extreme pain. I ask my mum to ask for some gas and air and to have my cyclzine as my hyperemesis was peaking high at this point! So she goes out the room and a couple of minutes later comes back in and gets my medication ready.. haha mean while I had the worst pressure and pain of all and BOOM a lovely warm gush of my waters broke. (This was 5 minuets later)Oh my what a relief 😍!! So I’m just about to take my medication and all of a sudden my baby’s heart beat drops right down low 😒 they check how far I am now and I’m an full 10cm☺️☺️and before I knew it I was being rushed upstairs on to the high risk ward. I honestly have no clue how I managed to get off that bed and sit in a wheelchair within a couple of minutes. The doctors didn’t believe I was 10cm when the midwifes told them🙄 but I was pretty much shouting I need to push, get my baby out now😆 I had to have a tear and my little boy was delivered by kiwi suction due to how low his heart beat was! I was given a numbing injection which was a nightmare because all these members of staff and myself and mum were waiting about as it stopped me from feeling my contractions. I was then stitched up (hurt more than labour) and was told I was lucky because my little man was tightly wrapped round the cord twice on the neck and twice around the shoulders! My boy was born on 04.11.17 at 11.47pm weighing 5lbs 4oz 😍☺️

So to anyone who is worried about their labour not everyone’s is bad! All about the breathing and positivity!
