Baby hungry or just soothing?

Baby is always rooting around, i.e. licking blanket or rubbing face on shoulders while being burped, even if he just spent 1-2 hours breastfeeding. I know he is getting colostrum because sometimes he spits it up. I know babies like to cluster feed. But could he still be hungry when he is spitting up colostrum or is he just using me as a pacifier. It’s really starting to frustrate my husband who thinks he isn’t getting enough to eat. Or isn’t filling up quickly enough because we have a toddler who demands attention. 🤷‍♀️

If it’s still colostrum then hungry. Baby has to nurse constantly to bring the milk in. Once the milk comes in it can be more of a guessing game but if they’ve nursed a decent chunk and chose to unlatch themselves but still root it’s for comfort

My first night home from hospital it felt like baby was on my boobs alllllll night! I was not prepared for it at all. My milk came in on day 3 though and she was more content after that. Beware of growth spurts as well as they want to feed constantly during them too!

How old is the baby？ sounds like maybe just a few days old. For the first few months babies will be confusing because they root and act hungry when they aren’t. Maybe they are. Or maybe they have a burp or some gas. Or tummy hurts or they’re bored. So the root around like they’re hungry. It doesn’t hurt to try and feed them again or ty a paci and if they suck on it and don’t get mad there is no milk then chances are they weren’t hungry. But as a brand new born and still getting colostrum then who know. Lol babies are confusing.
