My second grader has to read 20 minutes a day and has to mark his calendar and then give it to his teacher at the end of the month. Students have to read more than 20 days to get a “brag tag” (tag that he puts on his backpack) Anyway, my son decided he didn’t want to read anymore because his classmates mark their calendars without reading and submit their calendar and get brag tags without the hard work. I kept telling him throughout December that I will NOT sign your calendar if you didn’t actually read. I told him I’m not lying to your teacher and you shouldn’t be getting something you didn’t work for. Anyway the day came where they turn in their calendars and my son asked me to sign his “marked” calendar. I told him NO. He said “well my classmates..... blah blah blah” I told him I’m not their mom, I’m yours. I’m not going to teach you to lie. He threw a FIT and went to school crying. I know he’ll feel awful that others are not being honest and they’re getting rewarded for it but I can’t control everyone. I can only teach my son between right and wrong. Hopefully one day, he’ll realize I did it for his own good. Would you have done the same?
