Peanut Butter & Meat!!!

Gabi

Hello, all you wonderful ladies. I’m new to this. I was actually born hypoglycemic and I suspect it was due to my mother’s undiagnosed gestational diabetes. Once I approached adulthood, my sugar levels evened out and I’ve been doing great... until now. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, following a failed Glucosa test, both with the one and three hour tests. Failed the one hour test with a 180. Failed the two hour with fasting of 73, first hour at 178, second hour at 187, and third hour at 153.

I haven’t seen my endocrinologist yet, but I have already started dieting and testing (as I’m no stranger to the finger pricks).

I’m mostly eating a paleo/Low-carb diet. I’m obsessed with peanut butter (always have been). That and meat seem to keep my levels steady.

So far, I’ve only had two readings over 100. One was the first time I tested, only an hour after eating some chili. Since I failed the glucose tolerance test with a spike at the two hour mark, I’ve been testing two hours after meals. The 100 reading was after having a few bites of potatoes. I think I’m mostly intolerant to starches.

Am I okay? Do I need to increase my carbs, or just keep doing what I’m doing? Less carbs?

I’m having a boy, and while all the babies on my side of the family have been absolutely tiny girls, all the babies on my husband’s side have been gigantic. Hoping this GD doesn’t make my boy too big! I’m a very small person, with a normal BMI, so I’m trying to avoid a c-section in any way that I can.
