Ok ladies on maternity leave...do any of your partners help with the night??

Question

I've asked for help one night a week, either Friday or Saturday night and I do the other nights. I breastfeed so it's only nappy changes I need, its not working out though as he doesn't / can't / won't wake up. I will be truthful and say how hard he works and how great he is with the baby..but i'm exhausted too. How have you arranged the nights? Thanks x

When I was exclusively nursing, I handled night times. The baby rarely (if ever) woke just for a diaper change until he was on solid foods. If I had to be up to nurse, I didn’t see the point of waking my husband to change the diaper when I could just do it and was already awake. Plus, because I would let him sleep at night, he would let me nap during the day while he was on paternity leave and on the weekends when he was home. That’s when I would catch up.

I wake my husband when I hear her cry and he changes the diaper and brings her to me.  I nurse and he goes back to sleep and I lay her back down.  We found that works best for us because it feels very isolating to me to do nights all by myself and I can fall back asleep faster if I don't change the diaper.

My husband has always helped at night. I have to wake him, but he does whatever without complaint. He has a support network at work. People who can pick up the slack if necessary. My little boss doesn’t care and doesn’t understand when I’m overtired. Now that I’m back at work, he still does a lot of the nighttime parenting. No parent is off the clock at night!

He will do a diaper change around 7-9 pm on but that’s about it. In fact we sleep in a different room on the days he works so he can get sleep. I’m starting to get real annoyed that he just has the gall to ask me if I’m tired. 🙄 no of course I’m not tired I’m just sitting here pooping rainbows.

My husband works 12 plus hours I do all the work at night but my baby sleeps through the majority of the night only feeds once or twice

Do nights because he works during the day and I'd rather him not be tired during work

My husband had the "well I work and you're home...." mentality, until I became so sleep deprived that I got severe pp depression  (my son had reflux and just wouldn't sleep). If it's just a quick feed and change and baby goes back to sleep that's one thing, but you need sleep too. It's not like I get to nap all day. My husband started doing 2 night shifts a week, or we would do shifts. He'd do 9pm until 1am, I'd do 1 to 6 type of thing.

When I was on maternity leave I didn't ask for help from my husband but on the weekends he stepped up no issues. It's a fair request on your part.

My milk never came in, so we are formula feeding..  and my husband is a tremendous help. She goes to sleep between 9 and 10pm.. and then usually wakes up once and my husband feeds her, then he wakes up for work at 5 am. I've tried to take over and feed her at night so he can sleep, but he insists on helping which is wonderful.

My husband got up whenever he thought I needed help no asking. He's always been like that. He gets up every morning with our son.
