When to transition baby to toddler bed?

My son is 1.5 years old. Will be 2 in June. He kicks or shakes his crib away from the wall every morning or after every nap. A good 2 feet away. I was trying to keep him in a crib until closer to 2.5. Is it time already to transition him because of that or is it okay?

We are going to do a twin sized floor bed whenever he is ready.

Thank you everyone!!! We are going to get some doorknob covers and another babygate today. He has 2 doors in his room, one that goes to the kitchen and one that goes to the hallway by all the bedrooms and the bathroom. Going to put a door know cover on the one to the kitchen, the bathroom door, and his brothers door already has one. Leave our door and his other one open. Then a babygate to block off the living room. I hope this transition goes smoothly!

My 10 month old does that and literally broke one whole side of her crib off. She’s in the pack n play until she is a little older then will be in her bed before her sister arrives in 6 months.

I’m planning on moving my son to a twin on the floor at 16 months! His sister is due when he’s 17 months, so we’re evicting him from the crib. I’m planning on keeping his door closed (as we always do). He can’t reach the knob yet but once he can well do a baby gate and/or a childproof doorknob.

If he’s strong enough to do that, I’d be concerned he may loosen the crib railing I’d go ahead and try it!

My son is 21 months and we just transitioned him....he’s doing great! When I asked my pediatrician about it his only concern was if my son could safely get in and out of the bed. So we got a bed that is close to the ground and his room is carpeted so we felt he was ready....goodLuck!
