What next.

Question

I've recently had blood taken and the results showed high levels of androgens and my doctor thinks it could be PCOS. She has referred me to the gynaecologist but what now? What happens next? I've been taking prenatal and agnus castus daily and trying my hardest to lose weight. I've done a little research on PCOS but don't know too much about how serious it can get.

Answer

It can get pretty bad, if you don't get it under control fast enough. I'm 18, was only diagnosed last year. So it had gotten really bad between puberty and that point, but! If you go to the Gynocologist and follow what they tell you to, it can be under control pretty easily. Depending on what your presenting symptoms are they may try different things, (birth control, metformin) but with PCOS the most important thing is also following a healthy diet plan and exercising. Most PCOS women have,

-Irregular/Horribly heavy periods
-Terrible cramps (like contractions) while on their period.
-Excess body hair.
-Weight gain that's easy, but hard weight loss and most of the weight may sit in your midsection.
-Symptoms of Diabetes or Pre Diabetes
-High blood sugar levels on blood tests.
-Some may even have darkening of the skin around the neck and armpits.

I was diagnosed with PCOS as well when I went in because I was having trouble ttc and some unexplained pain. My periods were not regular, but  not super off. They would range from 27-35 days. I have these really dark hair in my face stomach and my acne started getting bad when I got of bc especially in my back  They started me on meteformin and I am currently ~ 5 weeks and 2 days.  I also had been pre treating myself by loosing about 40 lbs before we started ttc. Sometimes all it takes is the weight lose. My doc said if I hadn't done that it would have been a lot worse. Had my first hcg draw yesterday go in for the next tomorrow.
