Today our little man Henry Wilde Medley was born over 5 weeks early. He’s doin so amazing, even though he will probably need a few more days in the NICU. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy despite HG and he is always measured smaller than average but was in the normal range. I had low back pain all day, had just baked a huge elaborate chocolate cake and was settling into a movie on the sofa with my husband when low and behold I was one of the 10% who literally began gushing fluid all over my sofa (and the only rug in a hardwood floor house!). We raced to the hospital IN A SNOWSTORM and I was already 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. 11 hours later (and an epidural at 8cm because I was getting less than 30 second between horrible contractions) he was born without any trouble. They said I wouldn’t get to hold him but he was so great, that I held him skin to skin for 25 minutes before they took him and my husband to the NICU. He took to a pacifier like a pro and got some donor breast milk. He’s not eating quite enough yet to leave the NICU and I’m still scared for him. He’s only 4lb 13oz. But he’s perfect and I am so in love. Hopefully we take him home in under a week.
