Henry’s Birth Story
Henry is now 7 months old and things have been crazy busy but I can finally type my birth story.
Two days before my 38 week appointment I went swimming and that must have moved things along because the morning after my appointment I lost my mucous plug and had mild contractions. I was getting ready to go to work, washed and curled my hair and was putting on makeup when my doctor called me. They had detected protein in my urine and because of that and my elevated blood pressure at my last appt, they decided to have me come to triage that day to induce me. I had already started to get contractions but they weren’t close together.
I told my husband and he was panicking, smiling and running around all at the same time getting everything we needed for the hospital. My hospital bag was packed, my breastfeeding pillow and my husband/my bag. We realized we didn’t have an infant car seat since it was in the mail and arriving in 3 days.
I shaved my legs and quickly painted my toenails (I always said I had to do these two things before giving birth 😂) and we headed to Target on the way to the hospital. The line went sooo slow. It was like out of a movie, people asking a million questions to the cashier, people signing up for credit cards, it wasn’t like I was in labor or anything. Hehe.
My husband got us Starbucks sandwiches and I ate that and drank a ton of water, knowing I couldn’t once we were at the hospital.
The guys at the valet at the hospital asked if I needed a wheelchair. My husband must think I am superwoman (which is nice) because he asked “do you really need one?” I said “yeah why not.” They checked us in and brought us to our nice birthing suite.
Our room was so nice and huge. My mother in law, father in law, husband, and his aunt and uncle all were there. They gave me Pitocin and i fell asleep and about 4 hours later I heard a loud “pop” my water broke and it was the weirdest feeling ever. After that, my contractions got so bad. I asked for the epidural about 30 min after and it didn’t hurt me at all, it just felt strange. Everyone had left at this time besides my husband.
At around 10:00 pm my best friend Karen came to visit me after her work shift and at that point I was 10 cm dilated and ready to push. They put on mediation music and diffused lavender essential oils in the air. She asked if she should go or stay and my husband had her stay. It was a great experience! She fed me ice chips and my husband coached me. I felt literally no pain at all, my left leg felt like it weighed 100 lbs and kept falling to the side from the epidural so my husband had to hold it up. I pushed and pushed but couldn’t feel much because of the epidural. I actually laughed in labor and the doctors all were cracking jokes saying how they never seen anyone laugh so much while giving birth and not sweat at all. My husband and best friend were sweating, my makeup and curls were still in tact! Haha
I pushed for about 2.5 hours and they were about to use a suction and I said heck no!! I pushed as hard as I could and my husband cheered me on and I finally got his head out.
Then his whole body.
I heard the most amazing sound ever, his cry
and felt his warm, sticky, curled up body on my body and felt his little hands and cradled his butt and back in my arms and I just couldn’t believe he was mine. He latched on right away. My husband cut the cord and I had a 4th degree tear, yikes! It didn’t hurt at all until after a few hours but everything healed amazing by 6 weeks and I was back to normal. I would do this again and again and have a bunch more babies. ☺️💕
Henry was born at 12:54 am on June 2nd, 2017 -8 lbs 3.6 ounces and 20 inches long
He amazes me every day!
