Tired of the eating / weight advice?!
Anyone else exhausted by the onslaught of “only XX calories / XX weight” by this point in pregnancy? As someone with a prior eating disorder, and a woman in today’s society, more generally, I find it unhelpful and anxiety provoking. I gain lots of water weight while pregnant (up 55lbs last pregnancy, all gone by 4 weeks) and I can’t help thinking that these “guidelines” are misplaced precision and consistent with norms controlling women’s bodies, instead of supporting healthy habit like eating nutritiously and exercising. I understand for some individuals weight gain might be particularly tricky for issues like hypertension, but the emphasis on counting calories and pounds is intense! Arg.
