Anybody Cloth Diapering?

Question

Really excited about cloth diapering my little guy when he gets here but I'm not getting a lot of (okay, any at all) support from our families, and none of our friends really seem to have an opinion one way or another because they're not starting families yet.

Anybody else up against this? How do you cope with being seen as "different" for not going mainstream? The comments about why I would ever choose to cloth diaper, how I'll never have the time to breastfeed exclusively and make my own baby food, and wondering what the point of organic products is are really starting to get me down.

I'm CDing as well! We're going to start off part time and see where it goes. My family and friends are supportive but also leary of whether we will actually succeed lol. My mom and aunt (babysitter) are not willing to CD when baby is in their care, but I understand that so I'm not pushing the issue. I'm thinking and hoping that they will be more comfortable with it once they see that it's not like it was when they were doing it. I feel you! I'm sick of all the negative comments just because I'm eating organic, cloth diapering, breast feeding, making organic baby food and whatever else I choose to do. You would think these are all harmful from the crap people have been saying. There have been a couple of rough days when they've made me feel like I should just give up on cloth, but then I snap out of it and I can't wait to prove them wrong.

I am! Thankfully both my Mom and MIL cloth diapered so they are supportive. I also have a ton of friends that did and are also supportive. Also have a TON of people who think I am nuts and try to talk me out of it, and my home birth. Honestly, if you can't find anyone, go to this site called http://www.fluffloveuniversity.com.

I am cloth diapering and my SO's family and mine don't mind. I've spent less than $100 on 42 nappy covers that will last till potty training. Financially it's the best choice. Environmentaly it's a great choice. I did a persuasive speech on cloth vs disposable diapers in college and disposable diapers that the wood pulp has been bleached with chlorine can cause cancer. There are alternative disposable diapers that haven't like earths best and seventh generation but they aren't as available in stores. Everyone is different. Some people just don't want to deal with the laundry. I would rather do an extra load of laundry every other day the spend all the extra money on disposable diapers.

I learned a ton there! Took some time to watch all the videos, but totally worth it. I basically have an idea of what I want to do, but am registering for a couple of different kinds to try and it sounds as though that ultimately I will figure out what works best and can trade or sell what I don't like. They have great resale value! I usually don't engage when people try to push their agenda on me- I choose my path because it works for me and my family. I usually just say that I am not set in stone about anything and I will figure out what I need as I go- however what I need from them is encouragement- if they can't give it, then we can talk about something else. Try to find a Facebook group- I love love love the Longest Shortest Time- it has allllll kinds of mommies and advice and you can ask whatever you need. Hope this helps!

I started cloth diapering my first son after he was year old and I wish I had started sooner but I wasn't brave enough. I am having my second baby in August and I plan on doing it from the very beginning. I love Wink diaper covers and prefold diapers but I also plan on buying some two in one diapers that you put a insert in. The diaper covers and the 2 in 1 diapers go from 7 to around 35 + pounds. 
There are very few people that I know that cloth diaper but most of my family is supportive even if it's not what they would do. either way you should do what makes you happy

We're also going for it. With disposables for longer trips and first few days. I just tell people it's not like it used to be, they have liners and velcro and we have a washing machine with a super quick cycle so it'll be fine!

Maybe my network of fam and friends is weird but no one gives two shits about how I'm diapering. I'm planning to do a service for the first few weeks then start doing cloth myself. (We don't have laundry in our apt, just downstairs, & I kinda don't want to worry about it at first.)
