Would you take baby clothes from someone who smokes?

I am not really in need of clothes but someone was so thoughtful and gave me several newborn items. The person smokes and I know that there is evidence that people smoking around babies can increase the risk of SIDS... 
I know I can wash the clothes but I’m not a smoke so I don’t know if the smoke fully comes out of the material or not...

one good way to take smells out is fill your tub up with HOT WATER add vinger ,baking soda , and dawn soap and let it sit over night then dump water and risen clothes and do it again and then throw baby clothes in washer and ALOT OF STAINS COME OUT AND SMELL☺

Did they smoke in the home?...If the clothes smell like cigarettes, wash them a couple times and if they still smell just toss em.
