Is paying huge sum of money to adopt a child ethical?

I thick it is unethical and selfish to whosoever is collecting money from people because they want to adopt a child who is indeed of a home. It is selfish and expresses greed. The need needs a place to call home and since u can’t offer that to the child why don’t you allow someone else to do so? We should send this to Congress. It’s high time we stop this capitalism greed. To me it is like they are selling an innocent child. It is human trade and very unethical

The way I see it... adoption is already a lengthy process. They’re giving a life to people. There’s a long application process, home visits, etc to make sure the child is cared for and does not go into an abusive environment. That’s a lot of time and resources (people) needed to conduct said cases. 
It is expensive, yes. But there are sick people in the world who would probably abuse the shit out of the system if those policies weren’t in place and you could just pick out a kid for $25...

The cost really bothers me. I am all for the background checks and home visits *in general. The part about the background checks that I don't agree with is that some agencies wont work with you if you have had fertility treatments in the last year. They wouldn't tell a fertile heterosexual couple not to have unprotected sex for a full year. But if you are single, in a homosexual relationship or infertile you can not be looking into any other family building options. The other thing that I don't think it is fair for them to look into and reject you for is medical history, some agencies won't work with cancer survivors.

Not sure if you are talking international, domestic or foster care adoption...BUT: The costs go toward so many things: years of healthcare, food, shelter, clothing, toys, books, therapy and education for children in foster care or orphanages or group homes, paying the people who provide care for them, paying the people who do home studies, paying the people on the legal end who get all your paperwork ready for the judge, paying the company who works to match the right children with the right homes so people don't regret their adoption, paying the people for following up with the family to make sure the process goes right. None of that comes cheap. I wish it were a cheaper and easier process myself as we would love to adopt. But I understand why it isn't.

Yes! I can understand paying the costs associated with making sure youre good people with a safe home, but $20k or whatever the cost is outrageous when children deserve families who want them. I am not looking forward to any of that process.
