Checking for dilation

So I’ve heard checking for dilation is uncomfortable and can hurt. My Dr said it’s totally optional and if I don’t want her to, she doesn’t have to check for dilation. Since it’s optional I’m kinda thinking of asking her not to do it.

Are there any pluses to having her check?

Has anyone told their dr they don’t want them checking?
