Certified nurse midwife vs ob?

Question

My hospital offers the option of having an ob gyn or CNM oversee prenatal/labor & delivery for low risk pregnancies. I know I want a hospital birth 'in case' -and I like a lot of what I'm learning/researching about CNM s and am considering that route since it seems to be a great blend of what I'm looking foR. Anyone else using a nurse midwife in a hospital? Or used one w a previous pregnancy?

I used a midwife in a hospital for my first and I loved it! The great things is that they are there for the whole labor, not just to catch and the very end. I highly recommend midwives.

With this one, I'm going to use the same midwife, but this time at a birth center.

I'm using an OB. Not because I don't like midwives but because of the OB herself. She's such a whatever works for you kind of person as long as there is not danger. She also tells me about side effects, points me to current research, and supports me in my desicions I make. She doesn't mind that I want a natural birth and may use essential oils during my labor and delivery. I'm very confident that she'll allow me to have a good birth no matter how it goes.

We've been using midwifes from the beginning. My obgyn office has 4 midwives and we rotate and see all 4. Then at delivery, whichever is on call will be the one who delivers, either way it'll be someone we've met. We LOVE the midwife option. They have been fantastic and are more open to whatever the mom/dad want vs what modern medicine says to do. I highly suggest a midwife!!

I think it really depends on the CNM and the OB in the practice. I go to a practice that has both and several friends have has the CNMs deliver their babies. I am trying to see everyone in the office including the CNMs just so I know everyone in the practice. Since at my hospital it could be the OB or the CNM there to deliver if you don't have a preference. I am just glad I work with all the doctors in my group so I know them on a personal as well as a professional basis.

I'm using a midwife in a hospital. I like that I can trust her to try more natural methods before medical ones. However she is backed by a doctor if something were to come up.

I think it depends on the actual OB and midwife and not so much whether one license is better than the other.  My first pregnancy I had a CNM Bc that's what Kaiser gives you if you aren't high risk (but I was high risk and they ignored it, another story).  While my CNM was super sweet she didn't take my concerns seriously about family history of preeclampsia and I ended up having an emergency c section at 32 weeks Bc they didn't catch it in time.  So I had a bad experience with a CNM, but it was specific to her and not all midwives.  I would recommend meeting them and deciding from there.
