Forehead thermometer???

Ftm here. Are forehead thermometers accurate? My LO is 99.6 but people say these aren’t accurate. He feels fine but I’m so nervous. Thoughts? .

No ma'am not at all. the forehead one was all I had and thought it was great well 2 weeks ago my son woke up hot and I used it and it said it was 99 something and I gave him Tylenol and went on about my business and had to go to work and he did have a small cough. Well my pharmacist at work wanted me to check on him and take a rectal thermometer and I did and it said 102.7.....used my forehead one just to check and it said 99 or 100 something I can't remember. My son went to the Dr and it had got up to 104.4 and he tested positive for the flu at 1 year old. I won't ever use a forehead one again after that experience.

It’s more than okay to use a forehead thermometer. Our daughter has never had her temperature taken rectally. Not even at the doctors. With an axillary/forehead temperature, you’ll want to add a degree to the reading. It’s typically about a degree and a half lower than a rectal temperature. So that temperature is actually about 101.1 which is a low grade fever.

They’re not 100% accurate, no. I will use my temple forehead one, then compare it to the rectal or armpit (whichever I do) and it’s always off.
Now if I do rectal, then compare that to under the arm and adding a degree, it’s always spot on.

I don’t like them personally but ours you can stick in their ear too so I feel more comfortable about that. If it’s done correctly they are just as accurate as a regular thermometer from what I’m told. Of course temps are always higher right after they wake up. If they are acting fine I would just monitor all day and make sure they still feel ok
