Military SO

We are trying to conceive but he is in the military. He is in basic training right now and comes home in September. We tried the week before he left which were also my most fertile days and no luck. In addition to the pain of not having him with me, he was so excited at the thought of coming home to a healthy pregnant girlfriend but I feel like I let him down. And a concern I have is that I have been on birth control for a few years and I feel like it may have messed up my fertility. Help?
